When a gangster or some thug says to someone, "You're a goof." What does it mean?

In gangster or street slang, calling someone a "goof" is a serious insult, implying that they are weak, fake, foolish, or a target for ridicule.

Common meanings and implications:

Weakness or softness: Labelling someone a "goof" or "goofball" in street language often means they're seen as cowardly or incapable of standing up for themselves.

Gangster culture views it as a breach of respect, usually leading to immediate conflict or confrontation. When someone gets called a goof, shots or punches are being thrown, knives are being drawn, and guns are being shot. Someone is likely to die. Well, if they are a Gangsta. 🥷 😎 Of course, most people just throw that word around so they sound tough, and when they get called out on it. Backpedal like a Lil Beatch or in real talk like a Bitch (as in pussy, wimp, chickenshit.)

Maybe to lead to doing time for stabbing someone because they used that word, like I did, 18 months for aggravated assault once. Or another time, common assault for saying that word to me. And how many fights have I gotten into because someone called me a goof? I can think of a handful for sure. Several times, I ended up losing the fights, leading to severe pain and trauma. But also the opposite. In my gangster ways, I beat more than one person silly, breaking noses and hurting people for calling me one.

So it is a trigger word that instantly causes cortisol, epinephrine, norepinephrine and adrenaline to course through my body and brain. I have learned to control my emotional reaction now. But only after decades of working on myself and serving years in jail for charges because people called me one, and I reacted. Never mind the months of solitary confinement that I served, and the beatings I endured because of this one dangerous, offensive word.

Still, if you want my respect, it's best not to say it to me because you will lose it the moment you do.

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and 30 seconds to lose it.
